I am Ramón Nieto, passionate fisherman. I was about four or five years old when my grandfather taught me how to fish. I remember putting my first rods together with him piece by piece. We collected reeds for the body of the rod, then carved a wine cork for the body of the float. I will never forget how excited I was, looking at the water for hours.
Catfishing has its own beauty, beyond the catches
I was completely enchanted by the ritual of fishing. My love for fishing has remained the same until this day. I have mastered many methods and techniques over the years. About five years ago, on a winter day when the fishing equipment was resting, I started to watch online videos and DVDs on the subject. It was then when I first encountered the films of Ferenc Koós, specifically “The Mysteries of Catfish fishing” series.
The focus is on Koós catfish rods.
A fantastic image of these spieces revealed to me. I never thought that a fish could be so sophisticated and mysterious.
Such and larger catches make it worthwhile to fish for catfish.
Encouraged by these films, I decided to start catfish fishing the following year. During next spring, I visited the famous catfish camp of Ferenc Koós, where I could learn about the methods of catching this mysterious fish. I first came across the splicing method then, or as it is also known: the tearing method.
With the breakaway method, we can even moor to a buoy.
This method works by mooring the end rig, which is at the end of the main line, in the area to be fished with a line with a much lower strength than the breaking strength of the main line. This area can be a reed wall, a bush, a tree trunk, or a buoy, or even a weight placed on the bottom of the water, etc. The fishing rod stretched from the mooring is placed on the shore standing (it can be set prestreched or laid down, then prestreched with a heavier weight bite indicator). In the event of a bite, the tear line breaks and drilling of the fish begins.
The rod must be placed on the shore in a stable stand.
This method has a better chance of catching the fish because there will be a more direct connection between the end gear and the fishing rod than with other tension-free float or bottom methods.
Such crooked, wooded fishing spots hide the best habitat for catfish.
In the catfish camp, we pulled our baits in to 240-250 meters, tying of it required serious experience. I learned this method - which was new to me - quickly, but I thought it was a too complicated and complex process. While preparing for the next camp, I thought about how would it be possible to make the process easier and faster. Rebinding after a possible bite is much more difficult after dark, especially if the wind is blowing and the rain is falling too. In such cases, I didn't even go to retie, I rather waited for the sunrise.
It is also worth trying along reed walls.
Thinking about making the method easier, I came up with the idea of using magnets, to create a structure which I could replace the single-use monofilament with: thus CATMAGNET was born.
CATMAGNET was created to facilitate the chipping method.
The structure consists of two units, which are connected by a magnet. The white floating part can be fixed or running on the main line, and the other, blue component, contains the braid necessary for fastening, with which the structure can be attached to a landmark near the searched location. As a result of a bite, these two parts release and the fight with the fish can begin.
The structure consists of two units.
Thanks to the magnetic solution, the 2 parts are easy to handle.
I designed the CATMAGNET in a way that if we rotate the two parts on the top of each other, different magnetic connections can be created, thus we can replace tensile line of different strengths. The essential idea of the device is that we can completely replace the line used for tearing, which means we are not contaminating our environment with the remaining monofilaments. After the fight and re-baiting, we can practically re-arm our system with one movement.
Molded and reliable components guarantee durability.
On the smallest grade we can fish approximately 40-50 meters, where the strength of the magnets equals a 0.20-0.25 monofilament line, the middle grade is 200-250 meters - 0.25-0.30, and the strongest grade is a 0.30-0.35 monofiament and can be used at a distance of 400-500 meters or more.
3 levels can be adjusted by rotating the parts and it is also equipped with a reflector.
CATMAGNET consists of injection-moulded parts, which makes it a product intended for long-term use. The material itself is colored, so we don't have to worry about any paint wearing off. It is made of strong material that is completely resistant to trampling. Both of its parts float on the surface of the water, so we don't have to worry about it sinking if our rig breaks either. 4 light sticks can be snapped onto its surface, making it visible for those who want to track their movements in the dark - in addition, both CATMAGNET units are equipped with reflective foil, so you can easily find them in the dark even without using the chemical lights.
4 lighting cartridges can also be placed on the side of the Catmagnet.

Ensure the health of carp by developing a bait that is more natural and easy to a digest while also not harming the water environment… that was the tall order demanded of product developers at top Hungarian brand Energofish. And after two years of painstaking development, the company believes it has achieved its aim with the launch of The One. The source of the groundbreaking – and first of its kind – bait is the humble insect. The One Insect Series is a natural carp food that is...
The Carp Expert Double Tip rods have become extremely popular among anglers due to their versatility and the endless possibilities they offer, making them one of the most favored rods in the assortment. I personally experienced this versatility with the redesigned Max2 Double Tip rods, as one day I was fishing for bream with a long line and a 75g feeder, and two days later, on a different section of river, I was battling wild river fish with the same rod, fighting in the dense vegetation in...
It is obvious for everybody that the different boiled or fermented seeds, like tigernut, are essential groundbaits for anglers including both feeder and carp anglers. If we take a closer look at the tigernut range Energofish offers to its customers, it becomes clear, that among these products, probably all the anglers find the suitable one to feed or to use as a hookbait. Every item of the range are consisting of properly boiled, selected grains to guarantee the best chance for those who try...
Who knows me knows that from this year, I have the honor to fish under the colors of the Energofish team, which offers the opportunity to be the first to test and try out the products they distribute. You should know that before a product reaches the store shelves, it goes through numerous tests, and this is true for almost everything: groundbaits, lures, rods, reels… I have mostly encountered Benzar Mix products in this way so far. Allow me to share with you the experiences from three...
PVA products aren’t new accessories in carpfishing, because they have been available on the market for quite a while now. The popularity of concentrated, small-amount feeding hasn’t dropped during the past years, rather has grown among the Hungarian fishermen. These kinds of products were available in the wide range of Carp Expert accessories as well, but we thought that we needed to use the opportunities buried in the continuously developing technologies. That’s how the new Carp...
The technique of float fishing has always been one of my favorite methods. In my childhood (like many others), I caught my first fish with this float method, and to this day, I enjoy using rods without reels. At the FeHoVa exhibition, I encountered CARP EXPERT's new float rods for the first time, and when I held the model named SCOBAR in my hand, I immediately felt that it was an excellent tool... Gone are the days when I chased fish with a bamboo rod on the banks of small channels, then...
